  • Which source do you use most?

Posted byStereoNiche on April 10, 2025 at 2:39 pm

Of all the formats, which do you prefer to use?

    – Records, CD, Cassette are the main physical formats

    – Anyone use DAT, MiniDisc, 8-track, etc?

    – Streaming

Currently, I am records and CDs. Every blue moon I pop in a cassette, but that is only when I put in a cassette deck to test or play around with for a week or two, they are never in place full time.

I use many sources. I have to admit I’m streaming 90% of the time. However, I’ll play records (mainly to make it rotate and not seize). My second fav source are CDs.

I tried to edit this post but it didn’t present the edit button. I use several dacs. My favorites are Geshelli delta sigma 4491-4191 chip and updated Burson V7 opamp. I also use a Ladder Schumann R2R. For turntables I have a 1978 Sony PSX-55. I also have a modern Fluance RT-85.

Interesting. I can see a note under your original post that says it was modified. I think there is a time limit on how long you are able to edit a post. I’ll see if I can find it.

That may be the case as it took a while before I realized what you were actually asking. It was several minutes. I’m also having difficulty typing with my phone. 😂 It likes to commandeer my vocabulary.

For me it’s about 3/4 vinyl and 1/4 streaming.

I have 4 turntables, a Pioneer PL-50L II, Kenwood KP-990, Dual 701 (originally my dad’s) and a Sony PS-X600. The Sony is in my daughter’s room and I gave her a Pioneer SX-737 also.

I also have a Wiim Pro going through a Fiio K11 R2R. I want to set up a Roon server also.

I have two daughters myself, thus far, neither have any interest in a vintage stereo, but they are still young, maybe some day.

I am planning to do both some streaming and ripping my CDs sometime this year. Will be a fun learning experience.

My daughter is college age and they seem to all like vintage stuff these days.

For ripping CDs, I used XLD on the Mac. It worked well. That’s why I want to set up Roon so I can serve those FLACs out.

I mainly use cassette decks. I own around 35 cassette decks, 25 of which are Nakamichi, but I also have a few others such as TEAC, AKAI, and Revox. As additional audio sources, I have turntables from Thorens and Revox and two tape machines from AKAI and TEAC. I stream music via Deezer, but not very often as I prefer the analog sound. I have about 1,600 vinyl records and about 1,000 cassettes.
