Really enjoyed that exclusive Dragon vid, Scott. Fascinating interview as well. Interesting that the Dragon name was more of a coincidence rather than a naming nomenclature based upon the look of the faceplate (like dragon scales). Nakamichi’s naming department for their secret projects knocked it out of the park on that one…even if it was unintentional.
I’m curious what year the later model Dragon’s switched to the Dolby board that can be seen on the top when the cover is removed. We own a later serial model dragon (roughly 21000 S/N) which has the slow opening cassette door and some other minor changes from the original issues but not the separate Dolby circuit board.

Glad you liked it. When I put together the Dragon model page, I’ll see what information I can pick up on design changes over the 11 yr manufacturing run. I have two of them myself and I believe their SN# are fairly far apart.
The interviews with Dean are very cool and I am planning to work on at least two more videos that I think will showcase much of the history for Nakamichi from his perspective. Given his role, he was always viewing everything through the business lens (which was his role).
